This page explains exactly how we evaluate the products featured on TrimMyBush, what we test hands-on, what we don’t, and what standards every recommendation on this site is held to.
Transparency is the whole point. If you finish reading this page and still trust our recommendations, we’ve done our job right.
Our Core Principles
Before we get into the specifics of how we test, it helps to understand the principles that guide every review, guide, and recommendation on this site.
1. Honesty over commissions
We earn a commission when readers make purchases through affiliate links on TrimMyBush. That’s how the site funds itself, and we disclose this clearly in our Affiliate Disclosure. But commissions never determine what we recommend. If a product isn’t worth buying, we say so — even if not recommending it means we don’t earn anything.

Value for Money

How We Evaluate Products
Not every product on the site has been personally tested by our team — and we want to be honest about that. Here’s exactly how we approach each product review, and how you can tell which category applies to any given recommendation.
“We’ve Tested This” Products
For products we’ve personally purchased and tested, you’ll see a “We’ve Tested This” badge on the review. These are products we’ve bought at retail (not sent to us by the brand), used over an extended period, and evaluated against our six-criteria framework directly.
Hands-on testing includes:
- Unboxing and initial impressions
- Full setup and first use
- Extended real-world use over [TIME PERIOD — e.g., “at least 30 days”] to evaluate durability and long-term performance
- Battery testing (measured runtime, charge time, degradation over multiple charge cycles)
- Cleaning and maintenance under real conditions
- Comparison against similar products in the same category
Because we personally purchase these products (rather than accepting review units from brands), our recommendations are free from the subtle influence that comes with free products. It also means our tested library grows over time as the site’s affiliate revenue allows us to buy more products for review.
“Verified Customer Insights” Products
For products we haven’t personally tested, we base our evaluation on Verified Customer Insights — a rigorous aggregation of real customer experiences from verified purchase sources.
Our process for these reviews:
- We analyze hundreds of verified customer reviews from sources like Amazon (verified purchases only), Trustpilot, and manufacturer sites
- We look for patterns across many reviews — not cherry-picked positive or negative experiences
- We evaluate the product against our six-criteria framework based on how customers describe real-world performance

- We supplement customer analysis with expert opinions from established grooming publications and dermatology sources
This approach isn’t the same as hands-on testing, and we’re clear about that. But it lets us provide honest, useful recommendations across a much wider range of products than we could realistically buy and test ourselves.
What we don’t do
Here’s what we specifically avoid, so you know what our reviews aren’t:
- We don’t copy or reprint customer reviews. When we reference customer feedback, we paraphrase and analyze patterns rather than lifting review text directly.
- We don’t accept payment for positive reviews. No brand can pay to be recommended, ranked higher, or included in a buying guide.
- We don’t publish reviews of products we haven’t evaluated. Every product on the site has been evaluated through one of the two approaches above.
- We don’t manipulate rankings for higher-commission products. Every recommendation is based on merit, regardless of affiliate payout.

How Our Rankings Work
When you see a product ranked in one of our buying guides (like “Best Trimmer for Sensitive Skin” or “Best Body Groomer Under $100”), the ranking is based on the product’s total score across our six-criteria framework — weighted for the specific use case being ranked.
For example, a “Best Trimmer for Sensitive Skin” ranking weights Skin Safety more heavily than Value for Money. A “Best Budget Trimmer” ranking flips that priority. This means the same product might rank first in one guide and third in another, depending on what matters most for that use case.
Every buying guide includes a short explanation of which criteria we weighted most heavily, so you can decide whether our priorities match yours.
What Happens When Products Change
Manufacturers frequently update products — sometimes silently. A trimmer we recommended last year may have changed its blade design, battery capacity, or build quality by the time you’re reading a review.
To keep our recommendations accurate:
- We revisit our top-ranked products at least once per year to check for changes
- When we’re aware of a significant product update, we re-evaluate before continuing to recommend it
- Reviews are dated so you know when they were last updated
- If a product’s quality drops, we remove it from our recommendations — even if it was previously ranked highly
Our Relationship with Brands
We want to be transparent about how we relate to the brands whose products we cover.
We don’t have sponsored partnerships with any brand covered on TrimMyBush. We’re not paid by manufacturers to feature their products, write positive reviews, or rank them higher. We don’t accept free products for review because free products create subtle pressure to write favorably.
We do participate in affiliate programs with retailers (like Amazon Associates), which means we earn a commission when you buy a product through our links. The retailer pays us, not the brand. The commission rate is generally the same across products in a category, which means we have no financial reason to prefer one brand over another. What We Get Wrong (and How We Fix It)
No review process is perfect. We miss things. Sometimes a product we recommend turns out to have long-term issues we didn’t catch. Sometimes we underrate a product that gets better with use.
